Stephanie Woodling

The lyric mezzo-soprano, Stephanie Woodling, "provides wide theatrical flair, and a voice which is characterized by heat and power ..." enthused Tim Smith of Opera News. A native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Ms. Woodling holds a Bachelor and a Masters of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, where she was awarded the President's Award. There her opera debut was in the title role of Handel's Lotario and in Rossini's Le Comte d'Ory. Right after that she raised a lot of attention with her debut at the Santa Fe Opera as the second servant in The Egyptian Helena by Richard Strauss. In the 2011/2012 season at the Opera Workshop at the Rhine she played the title role in the world premier of Reineke Fuchs by composer Ulrike Haage. In 2009/2010 Woodling debuted at the Aalto Theater as Ino in Handel's Semele. She sang five seasons at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. She made her debut here in 2004 as the second servant in the new production of Elektra. There she also played the roles of Giulietta (LesContes d'Hoffmann), Dorabella, the second lady, Hänsel, Annio, Siébel, Ascagne (Les Troyens), Wellgunde, Tessa (The Gondoliers), Christa (The Makropulos Affair), Lapák ( Príhody Lišky Bystroušky), the third elf (Rusalka), and Antonia (lowlands).

In the US, Woodling played on many operational stages. Mentionable performances include Stephano in Gounod's Romeo et Juliette at the Baltimore Opera, and Cherubino at the Michigan Opera. The Opera News Online praised Woodling as "... the first Cherubino I've encountered who has projected a gawky adolescent boy with unabashed authenticity. She also sings beautifully,". She also performed as Donna Elvira at Opera Pacific, which critics described as providing "an intellectual burst of animation into the proceedings, giving a charming, brash, and thorough reading." On the New York City Opera, Stephanie Woodling played in A Little Night Music, Rigoletto and La Traviata. Previously, as a soloist in the Young Ensemble Opera Pacific, you could see her in many roles, for example, that of Meg in Little Women, Flora, Mercedes in Carmen, Jade Boucher in Dead Man Walking, and the second Lady in Die Zauberflöte . Recently, Stephanie Woodling played at the Lyric Opera in Kansas City as Stephano from Romeo and Juliet, at the OK Mozart Festival the Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi, and Mrs. Segstrom in the production of the Los Angeles Opera of A Little Night Music and the Caramoor as flora. Her concert repertoire includes works such as Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer, Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream, and the role of Solveig in Grieg's incidental music for Peer Gynt. Since 2013, Woodling performs with the close-harmony swing trio Fraulein Swing.
