Meghan Behiel
Born in Calgary Canada, pianist Meghan Behiel is known for her versatility, musical integrity, and artistic maturity. An emerging soloist and chamber musician, Meghan has been noted for her "unique expression" and "sincere attention to detail" (Berner Zeitung).
Recent highlights include a Swiss-wide concert tour with l'Orchestre de Chambre de St-Paul, during which Meghan performed both Schumann's Introduction and Allegro Appassionata Op 92 and Beethoven's Triple Concerto for Piano, Violin, and Cello. Meghan has also recently performed as a soloist with the Bern Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Franck Ollu. Her rendition of Liszt's Totentaz received great acclaim and was featured live on Radio Swiss Classic.
Apart from playing solo piano repertoire, Meghan is deeply committed to chamber music and Lied accompaniment. She genuinely believes in the importance of musical collaboration to further understand the technical and musical cross-references between instruments. Her collaborations with artists include Olivier Thouin, Yegor Dyachkov, Jonathan Crow, Christie Reside and Anton Kuerti. Meghan has also frequently participated in the Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music, where she met her Lied mentor, Rudolf Jansen.
Meghan completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in piano performance from the University of Calgary. A student of Marilyn Engle, Meghan continues to be tremendously influenced by her professor of many years. In 2011, Meghan went on to pursue a postgraduate degree in Specialized Music Performance with Professor Tomasz Herbut at the Hochschule Der Künste Bern in Switzerland. Discovering a newfound interest in historical performance practice, Meghan also completed a minor in harpsichord and fortepiano, graduating from both with distinction.
