Luis Fernando Piedra

The tenor Luis Fernando Piedra comes from Costa Rica. He started his career as a singer when he was only 4 years old, with his first recording at 8. At 10 he started to study singing with Maestro Danilo Chavez in his home country.

In the following years Luis Fernando participated in several award-winning presentations and projects:

1983: First prize, “Concurso de la Canción: Juan Santamaría” singing competition, Alajuela, Costa Rica.

1984: First prize, “América, esta es tu Canción” singing competition, México.

1986: Second prize, “Festilindo Internacional” singing competition, Panamá.

1993: First Prize, National Elimination Competition for the OTI (Organización Televisiva Internacional) Hispanic American Singing Competition in Valencia, Spain.

2000: First Prize, National Elimination Competition for the OTI (Organización Televisiva Internacional) Hispanic American Singing Competition in Acapulco, México.

2001: Teatro Melico Salazar, Costa Rica, “Nace Jesus”. Carlos Guzman. Isaias. Musical director: Carlos Guzmán.

2005: Auditorio Nacional, Costa Rica. Arias (Mozart, Donizetti, Puccini) Fundación Jóvenes Cantantes MP

After studying architecture in San José, the tenor was brought to Europe in 2007 with the Fundación Jóvenes Cantantes MP with the renowned soprano Iride Martínez. He has been with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since September this year and until today.

2014: Deutsche Oper am Rhein, “About a girl who didn't want to sleep”, Marius Felix Lange, Schutzer / Tim. Musical director: Christoph Stöcker.

2014 - 2015: Deutsche Oper am Rhein “Carmen” G. Bizet, Remendado.
